The Triumphant Return!

Well, well, well. It's been a long time, fellow people. I have decided that we need to revive this poor brain-child of ours. Give it new life. And, aside from that, I watched a movie that I wanted to review... so... It works for me.

<lj-cut="Ichi the Killer">
I'm Reviewing: Ichi the Killer
Which is a: Japanese Thriller
Rating: 9.25/10

Basics: Gory, japanese thriller based around a bullied young man and a sadomasochistic gang leader. Great fun ensues as the plot builds.

The Plot: Okay, so I missed the first half hour, but this is what I got from it:

A young man (Ichi) kills his parents and goes a bit nutty. He is taken in by a man who hypnotises him to think that he was bullied by a group of boys his age when he was younger, and saved by a woman (Ms. Techibana) who is later raped. He kills a gang leader, Anjo, at the request of the man who took him in. Kakihara, sado-masochistic replacement Boss for the Anjo gang (who also played a sort of twisted love interest to Anjo, I believe) vows revenge.

Madness follows the trail to find the infamous Ichi the Killer.

Pros:
+ Kakihara is sexy. Aside from that whole lip thing... but hey, I'm willing to make sacrifices. Masochists are kinda hot.
+Ichi is completely insane, and it's kind of endearing.
+The gore is insanely fake and there is a lot of blood. It's just so cheesy, that it's wonderful.

Cons:
-Lots of rape. LOTS of rape. But it goes along with the plot, with the gangs and such... but.. still...
-The subtitles ( I have no problem with them themselves, but...) kept getting blocked out whenever I had to turn the volume up or down. So I missed a bit of dialogue... That problem might not apply to you... but I felt it worth mentioning. So... nyah

Conclusion: If you dig Japanese films (i.e. Ringu, Ju-on, Audition) go see it. Hell, go see it even if you don't. It's a pretty good movie, all flaws aside, and if you don't like the plot, some of the dialog will put a smile on your face.
